We just cleaned this wool runner for a customer in Madison.
It is a machine made wool runner that looks like a handmade rug on the top. Note that the backing is a solid colored piece of cotton/nylon…..which indicates that is machine made. Sometimes you can buy a machine made wool rug for an inexpensive price, but l don’t always recommend this. The machine made orientals often include a latex backing and the latex starts to deteriorate and “off gas” a very bad odor. This odor can be corrected for a few days, but then the latex starts to off gas (it stinks) soon thereafter.
If you want to buy an inexpensive “oriental looking” rug, I recommend going with nylon or polypropylene.
