We are cleaning a white cotton sofa for a customer in Branford. Natural fibers like cotton and wool can be tricky to clean because of the cellulose in the fibers. Cellulose turns brown, sometimes permanently, if the fabric is over saturated or if is exposed to an alkaline (high Ph) cleaning agent.
Do not try to “spot clean” your white cotton or wool furniture. I have seen too many customers ruin their furniture by spotting it. If you like white furniture, I recommend that you choose a Sunbrella fabric, or a white microfiber fabric. Both of these fabrics clean up beautifully and there is no risk of cellulosic browning.
