Cleaning some carpets for a customer in Essex today.
See those pink spots near the baseboard? Those cannot be corrected.
The customer used an over the counter carpet spotter and the spotter bleached the dye and permanently changed the color. We see this all the time. Last week we cleaned a white carpet that had been treated with a grocery store spotter, and the spotter actually turned the carpet blue in certain areas.
Instead of using a spotter from the grocery store, make your own. Put a few drops of clear dishwashing liquid in two quarts of water. If the carpet is synthetic, add a teaspoon of ammonia (do not use ammonia on natural fibers like wool or cotton!). Blot the spot and then rinse with water. Extract the area with a wet vac. If you leave residue behind it will attract more soil so be sure to thoroughly rinse and extract.
